Abstract
Play is a state of mind and a lens for looking at the world. It encourages us to think, ask questions, and seek answers. Play belongs in libraries for many reasons and can be a means to engage library patrons through low-cost and high-impact programming. Throughout this article, readers will learn more about how to define play, where to find play, why it matters for libraries, and how to assess this work. This article includes case studies involving Creative Art Therapies (CATS), connecting communities, playing games, and more.
