Abstract
In current times of high registered nurse (RN) turnover, many organizations use nurse residency programs (NRP) to support transition to practice for newly graduated nurses (NGNs). Nursing Solutions Inc.1 reported the current United States RN turnover at 22.5%. NRPs have been proven to reduce turnover and help sustain the nursing workforce. However, operationalizing an NRP can be costly considering RN non-productive/productive hours and staff salaries required to support their success. The New Jersey Collaborating Center for Nursing (NJCCN), the state's nursing workforce center, created a statewide NRP as a cost-effective mechanism for assisting NGN transition to practice. The collaborative NRP provides standardized curriculum for NGNs and professional development opportunities for NRP leaders. After implementing this statewide initiative, a need to develop a concise technology-based tool, a dashboard, for visualizing and disseminating data at the organizational, state, and national levels was recognized. Key data points reflected in the dashboard include numbers of NGNs hired, organization and statewide retention rates, and NGN stress levels, and perceptions of support.
