Abstract

Empathy
Design: Quasi-experimental pre/post-test control group study with randomization. Correlation and mediation analyses were used to explore relationships between empathy, EI, and nursing competency. Data reported here were obtained as part of a larger study that also evaluated observed empathic behaviors and student engagement during simulated clinical experiences. Sample and Setting: A convenience sample of students (n = 71) enrolled in either the 4-year traditional or 14-month second-degree BSN program at Rutgers University School of Nursing.
