Abstract
The title may be translated "Primary Hungarica Sources Preserved in the United States." It is emphasized that American Hungarica documents often pertain to Americans as well as to Hungarians, and that the removing of documentation from its country of creation does not always serve the interests of researchers. American Hungarica are preserved on the premises of Hungarian ethnic organizations in New Brunswick, New York, and Cleveland, all of which struggle with limited finances and personnel, and Hungarian churches whose ethnic character may change in the future. A greater amount of American Hungarica is preserved, however, in academic and public institutions like Columbia, the Immigration History Research Center, the Library of Congress, and the National Archives. The papers of many outstanding Hungarian American persons are enumerated.
