Archives Postmodernism Classification Social responsibility
This article explores the application of postmodern perspectives to practices of archival arrangement and description. In particular, it uses postmodernism as a lens through which to critique professional neutrality and objectivity and highlight the mediating role archivists play in shaping the historical record. The article concludes with recommendations for implementing open, participatory descriptive standards and practices as a means of developing socially responsible praxis.
