Abstract

In this issue of Cell Metabolism, Kaufman and colleagues ( Back et al., 2009) elegantly demonstrate that appropriate regulation of eIF2α phosphorylation improves glucose tolerance and β cell viability by preventing the lethal buildup of oxidative damage due to unregulated synthesis, trafficking, and misfolding of proteins.
