Abstract

Academic librarians--Faculty status Academic Libraries
Faculty status for librarians was widely promoted during the late fifties and sixties and the topic is still discussed extensively in the literature. Many library administrators and librarians are of the opinion that the faculty model is inappropriate for academic libraries. Some libraries havepersisted in the implementation of full faculty status. They have found the principles of collegiality, academic freedom and tenure, and the concept of the librarian as teacher and researcher to be viable and highly beneficla1 to the academic library environment. This article discuss the criteria for faculty status and indicates how it has been implement at the UI-CU Library.
