Abstract
The compounds [(py){sub 3}Eu({mu}{sub 2}-SePh){sub 2}({mu}{sub 3}-SePh)Hg(SePh)]{sub 2} (1), (THF){sub 4}Eu({mu}{sub 2}-SePh){sub 3}ZnSePh (2), [Sm(THF){sub 7}][Zn{sub 4}({mu}{sub 2}-SePh){sub 6}(SePh){sub 4}] (3), and [Yb(THF){sub 6}][Hg{sub 5}({mu}{sub 2}-SePh){sub 8}(SePh){sub 4}]{center_dot}2THF (4) were prepared and their structures analyzed by X-ray crystallography. Interpretation of the molecular structure for these compounds based on these studies and on UV-visible spectroscopy data is presented. The compounds were found to be quite fluctional in solution.
