Abstract
The problem of concentric smooth elastic rings subjected to self-equilibrating interfacial point loading is considered. The problem is approached as a moving intermediate boundary problem in the calculus of variations, and a closed-form analytical solution is obtained. Numerical results are presented revealing the characteristic behavior of the system. These features include snap-through buckling and a characteristic limiting boundary angle partitioning the separated and unseparated regions at low load levels.
