Abstract
Schisanlactone A, a triterpenoid isolated from a
Schisandra sp
., is shown to possess structure

. The structure was assigned on the basis of spectroscopic studies and was confirmed by X-ray diffraction studies. Schisanlactone A represents a new structural type among the triterpenoids.
