In response to FTC-2023-0077-0001, the Petition for Rulemaking of PIRG and iFixit, this submission explains why justifications based on intellectual property (IP)--in particular, design patents, trademarks, trade secrets, and copyrights--do not excuse manufacturers’ repair restrictions.
